Clearing Leaves
Is there an attachment available or a trick to moving leaves from the yard/pasture ?I get tired of using my handheld blower.

The only thing I can think of is a mower-bagger system. But the price of these-OUCH!!! I priced them and then just bought a push mower with a bagger since leaves and pine needles only need be collected once or twice a year. There is an item called a pinestraw rake, made by Leinbach Manuafacturing that I have considered (only $150). That company is located in Winston-Salem NC.

There is a blower you push made by Little Wonder (I think). It has an 8 HP engine and is great for clearing lawns etc.
For larger areas there is a PTO powered vacuum trailer I've seen, don't know who makes them though.............

Farmer, I don't do leaves because they are a pain in the butt. I leave them to the lawn care guys, it always has been part of the landscaping business that was too damn much of a hassle. You didn't say how big of an area you had and if you had a compact tractor, so what I have to suggest may be too intense for your needs. Some of my friends into the lawn and golf course trades have a nifty unit called the Buffalo Turbine Debris Blower. It requires 20 pto hp or better, mounts to your 3pt hitch, and has a remote control 360 degree nozzle. This is the most awesome wind machine I've seen since Al Gore and will blow away small dogs, cats, chimps, baboons,lots of rocks, sticks, Nash Metropolitans, and the occasional lion, tigre, or bear (oh my), not to mention leaves. It'll even blow down the brick house built by that smart-ass little pig. It aint cheap, and it is dangerous to use around any living thing, eye/ear protection is a must and the livestock should be well away when you use it. If the area you want to clear is small, like an acre or so, Echo and Stihl make darn good backpack blowers that are easy on the bod and do a pretty good job if you don't mind the walking.

I have very wooded property and use my tractor with the mid=mount mower. With the mower running in the ellivated position I can pile up the leave very succesfully into piles to burn or into windrows.....try that out.

That's what I do as well, but with a riding mower. It breaks the leafs up a bit but windrows them fairly well. A neighbour does the same thing but in reverse. He says it breaks the leafs less, but reverse isn't fast enough on my riding mower. Who knows, maybe I'll actually get a tractor mower sometime. My wife is the main leaf removal motivator. If I don't help she'll do it by hand. Myself, I tend to just let them be.

I bought a Trac-vac a couple of years ago..5hp engine. It attaches to the 3pt and discharge side of the mower deck. I mainly use it the spring when the grass grows like crazy. However when I drove across the driveway it sucked up loose pieces of blacktop and road stones. It has two 44gal rubbermaid barrels for "stuff". They do have a web site.

I have a pile of pines so I use a 3pt landscape rake, rake into piles, load into the bucket of the tractor and deposit into a small pup trailer on the back of the other tractor. The larger tractor has a pull bar in the 3pt and I can dump the trailer in the woods.
I have a leaf vacuum trailer I would like to get rid of if anyone is interested. I got it with the house and got it running then realized it did not work well with my Landpride 3 pt. I then switched to a 3pt rear discharge. It is 8hp and has a 10 inch hose. You would need to mod for your discharge.

I mow a 7 acre grass valley between two hillsides full of oak. To get rid of the leaves each spring I use an Estate Rake to move the leaves into windrows. Then I mow over the windrows with a JD272 mower set high. The mower chops up the leaves nicely. Most leaves don't degrade well when they are whole, but disintegrate amazingly fast when they are chopped. Within 2-3 weeks, its hard to tell there was any leaves on the grass.
Estate Rake comes in 2 sizes. I started with the smaller one which has a 4-5 ft path, then got the bigger version which does 6+ ft. These also scratch the ground well enough for overseeding. I pull it with a Honda 450 ATV.
Works for me.
