So what do we pull these 7 8 10 & 12 K pound loaded trailers with?
I get the impression that the half, three quarter and even one ton trucks can't handle them!

My 3/4 ton Dodge/Cummins handles 15000+ pounds with no problem.

IMHO a half ton pickup truck is nothing more than a car with a big open trunk. I wouldn't waste my money on one.

International makes a pickup with the stuff to haul big boys toys. Yes, International is now making their first pickup in about 30 years? It is called the International 7300 CXT. It will get a lot of drools. But I have had no complaints from the F-350 with a 460 turd engine hauling 14000 lb trailer, loaded near capacity. 6MPG is not good. The cummins also did fine and I am in very hilly Pennsylvania. Right now I pull with a Japanese 1 ton. Mitsubishi Fuso 4x4, 11,600 GVW. It does OK with only 125 HP 3.9 liter engine. Slow but never stops.

Just sold my Isuzu 14500 gvw 175 hp 4 and bought an International 4700 dt 408 210 hp 25500 gvw. Has TWO 50+ gallon tanks, I'm scared!!! Diesel is 2.24 here today, was 2.17 yesterday and 2.15 the day before 2.11 day before that, man did I screw up? That Isuzu got better milage then anything I own, including the explorer.

I pull my 10,000#, 18' trailer with a F-250 HD Ford pickup (460 CI gasser).
Pulls the trailer fine, gas milage while pull it bites...

I just towed about 6000lbs with my '87 F-250 4x4, 460 auto. I hardly knew it was there. Mileage was around 9 mpg.

Years ago I had a boat that went about 3500lbs on the trailer with equipment. I towed this with a '72 Chevy Impala 350 auto, '85 F-150 4x2, 302 auto, and a '79 Bronco 351M auto. All three vehicles handled the boat just fine but surpisingly the Chevy did the best job. Had more power than either of the trucks and still got around 15 mpg. The Bronco was the best on a steep ramp, just shift into 4x4 low and creep right out.

No real point to that except to say I don't think a 1/2 ton truck will work very well with the heavier loads of a tractor and implements. If it's in the budget some of the newer 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have some serious tow ratings.

I tow my 4115 TLB and 16 foot flatbed (total weight about 5800 pounds) with my Tundra 4x4.

Unlike many light trucks it is designed from the ground up to tow. It has a tranny designed for the job and a factory oil cooler.

It is rated for a 7200 pound load and it will pull my tractor over Donner Pass at 70 MPH and get 13 MPG while doing it.

I cast my vote with AV8R for the Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins diesel pickup with the manual transmission. I have had mine for over 2 years and I LOVE mine. It has been a fantastic truck! I got 25 mpg on my last trip. I typically get about 18 mpg normal towing and 16 mpg very heavy max weight towing. I have the 6 speed manual and will never own an automatic trans. again.

Cheif, last night at 11 pm I took delivery of a tandem duel trailer, 6000 pounds. Along with this one was another of the same, a skid stear trailer, another car trailer and a 50 foot goose neck car trailer that everything was on,total of 35,000 pounds behind this truck. This is the killer, it was a 2002 Dodge one ton, diesel, he had a chip controller on the dash but even still I couldn't believe it. AND he bought it new and it now has 305,000 miles on it all hauling loads like this. 35000 ponds, my friends tandem axle Mack with a 300 horse 1400 lbs of torque Mack engine isn't rated for that!!!!
