ICF Barn Pictures
Cdcole was asked me about the pictures I posted and I finally posted a picture of the completed barn so.
The barn is 60 x 42 and is made with insulative concrete forms (ICF). It sits on the old slab for a house that we lost to a fire (lightning). The walls are 6.5 inches of reinforced concrete. I used metal barn trusses for the roof and mounted them into the concrete walls. These trusses accept two by sixes on 12 foot centers. I was worried about the sag in the roof so used 10 centers.
As the structure was on an old foundation and septic system I replumbed it for a bath room and have hook ups for the 5th wheel. We can use the 5th wheel as spare living space for guests.

No, the chimney was not damaged, about the only thing that wasn't and has a good heatilator in it so I thought it could be used to heat the barn. We have used it a few times when working in the area.

I live in North, ms and going to build a 30*50 shop then a house. I'm looking for any information on the icf's for the shop and house. form cost, ease of use, etc..

Looks more like a nice garage/shop to me. You do nice work Eric! I did not realize you live in Northern AL? Up until I retired, I did quite a bit of business with the folks in Redstone Arsenal. Would love to have a barn like that for my stuff.

I live in the country near Sulligent AL on the boarder. I am about 2 hours from Memphis. So the northern anywhere in the northern part is about that time. You are welcome to come and take a look if you are close.
Once trained the ICFs are easy to work with and can easily be assembled by your self. I trained a couple of workers and they assembled the barn forms in a couple of days. I have a time compute progam and they were right on the mark for both the barn and house. Time wise they can assembled as quickly or quicker than a pole barn. The difference is that they are fully insulated.
The forms I used were the ARXX by AAB. They are the best as they are designed for wind, earth quake etc. I could purchase them for about 16$ for an 16.5" by 4'. There are a couple of copies on the market now so the price has probably decreased and I would not hesitate to look at these. Look at the ARXX to get an idea of the features you are looking for and then compare the others.
I happened to talk with a couple in VA the other day that were in the selection mode and had a complete selection in their barn. I looked through them but never took note of the name. I had searched them all but this was a few years ago now.
My barn has about 12-15K in materials but has washroom and a separate 200 amp service.
I also amertised the scaffold is the 2 structures I biult so you could add another 2 K to this, but have the scaffolds/jacks for other structures. You would be welcome to rent mine if you are going to proceed.
The only other specialized equipment required is the windlass and the Reinforcing bar bender.
I maybe able to give you a hand if you are close. I have enough for 2400 sq ft on a single pour.

It is quite the set up. I am beginning to think I need to start a business to utilize it more effectively.
When I built it an engineer I was working with built a metal hoop shed to protect his and his father inlaws RV's. He laughed that I would spend that much money on the barn.
A little while later we had the 100+ winds rip across the 3 states. It took his barn out and severly damaged both RV's. We were also hit and had some damage to the old barn but not the concrete structure.
Again he scoffed and rebuilt the barn. Last spring a tornado ripped through the same area of Columbus MS and tore out the barn again and damage the RV again. It lifted before it hit here. I went down to help and offered to build one like mine. He ripped it down and replaced it with a small garage. Not sure where the RV went.
I never worked with Redstone, only Waterton and Aberdeen. They closed Waterton a number of years ago and moved everyone to Aberdeen.
