Chris: I'm not sure what you mean by a typicial suburban shed.
Metal buildings can be configured pretty much any way you want them---like they say "it's only money". Check out FBi buildings. They have an assortment of buildings, most or all of which are not "metal" buildings. They have some innovative designs and are the builders also. Check out their concrete sub-posts. Metal buildings cost about 1/3 to 1/2 more than wood and metal but the tax incentives are there for all metal.

 Building new pole barn

earthwrks, Your web link brought me to mircosoft.com ...hmmmm..
anyway, i starting to ponder if i want to build and barn or ad d on to my existing shed. its 16x20 right now and i was thinking of adding a 12x20 lean-to on it, but it was there when i bought the place and its sitting up blocks.
Then i wonder it i want to go new steel building 30x30...
the link below is what i'm looking at from premiersteel.org. Looks good... price seems reasonable. have no idea though..
